There are thirteen descriptive divisions of  daffodils.
Miniatures have the same descriptive divisions as standards,
only with smaller blooms, usually less than 1 1/2 inch in diameter
(see photo at the bottom of this page).


Division 1 - Trumpet Daffodils



American Dream, 1Y-P

The cup is as long or longer than the petals. There is one bloom per stem.

Division 2 - Large-Cupped Daffodils


Pacific Rim, 2 Y-YYR


The cup length measures more than 1/3 of, but less than equal to,
the length of the petals.  There is one bloom per stem.

Division 3 - Small-Cupped Daffodils



Emerald Light, 3 W-GYO

The cup length measures not more than 1/3 of the length of the petals.
There is one bloom per stem.

Division 4 - Double Daffodils



Marabou, 4 W-P

Daffodils have a clustered cup and petals.
There can be one or more flowers per stem.

Division 5 - Triandrus Daffodils



Akepa, 5 W-P

Daffodils have blooms that hang like bells.
There are usually two or more blooms per stem.

Division 6 - Cyclamineus Daffodils



Saint Louie Louie, 6 W-Y

Daffodils have a wind-swept appearance.
There is one bloom per stem.

Division 7 - Jonquilla Daffodils



Wendover, 7 W-W

Daffodils have small flowers with flat petals.
There are usually one to three blooms on a stem.
They are very fragrant. The foliage is narrow, reed-like.

Division 8 - Tazetta Daffodils


Early Pearl, 8 W-Y

Daffodils have clusters of florets (usually more than three) on a stem.
The foliage and stem are very broad. These flowers are very fragrant.

Division 9 - Poeticus Daffodils



Lemon Cooler, 9 W-GYR

Daffodils have extremely white petals and are noted for this quality.
The cup is a small, crinkled disc. 
Cups most often have a green center, surrounded by yellow, with a red rim.
There is usually one fragrant bloom per stem.

Division 10 - Bulbocodium Hybrids




Cornish Cream, 10 W-W

Division 10 consists of daffodils  in the "hoop petticoat" form pictured above.

Division 11 - Split-Cupped Daffodils



Garbo, 11a W-P

Daffodils have cups split at usually more than half its length.

Division 12 - Miscellaneous Daffodils



Mesa Verde, 12 Y-GGY

Division 12 consists of daffodils not classifiable by the first 11 divisions.
Many are inter-division hybrids.

Division 13 - Species, Wild Variants, and Wild Hybrids


N. rupicola subsp. watieri, 13 W-W

Division 13 consists of the wild, natural daffodils.

Miniature Daffodil


Junior Miss, 12 W-Y

Miniatures have the same descriptive divisions as standards,
only with smaller blooms, usually less than 1½ inches in diameter
